Energy Support to Municipality in Palestine from TİKA
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) installed a solar energy system in the water supply station which is within the borders of the Municipality of Yabad, in the Palestinian city of Jenin.
The 2 pumping stations of the Municipality of Yabad are working 24 hours and providing water for approximately 20 thousand people. However, the water station which used to be powered by a generator since there is no electricity in the region, was leaving the municipality in a difficult financial situation.
Thanks to the solar energy system installed on the water station by TİKA in Yabad, a place which is sunny most of the year, the municipality is supported financially. Clean energy use is also supported; as the carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emission caused by the generator that uses fuel oil are now being avoided.
In the opening ceremony of the project, Türkiye’s Consul General in Jerusalem, the Ambassador Ahmet Rıza Demirer; TİKA’s coordinator in Palestine, Orhan Aydın; Mayor of Yabad, Amjad Atetreh and authorities of the municipality were present. In his speech, the Mayor of Yabad, Atetreh expressed his appreciation of Türkiye for the moral and material support that is always shown to the people of Palestine and the effort made to reach up to every corner of Palestine. He also thanked the people of Türkiye.
