Healthcare Support to Albanian City of Kukës

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided equipment support to the Center for Autism located in the main building of Social Services in Albanian city of Kukës.

As part of the ongoing efforts to support civil infrastructure in Albania, TİKA provided equipment support to the Center for Autism established in Kukës by Liri Berisha, the President of Albanian Children Foundation and spouse of former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha. In this context, the Center, which will provide treatment to children with autism, was supplied with kitchen equipment, furniture, educational materials and electronic devices and a playground was constructed.

In his speech during the opening ceremony, Kukës Mayor Bashkim Shehu thanked Turkey for all the support and stated that the Center will not only serve children with autism but will help all children who are suffering from various issues. He added that the support provided by TİKA will never be forgotten by the mothers in Kukës.

President of Albanian Children Foundation Liri Berisha said that the foundation, which was founded in 1996, takes on various missions; and since 2008, it focuses on autism and aims to establish many centers all over the country. She expressed that thanks to TİKA’s contributions, they achieved one of their goals in Kukës and they will also be serving the people of Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro.

The center, which entered into the service of people of Kukës with TİKA’s contributions, is going to help with the development of the children with disabilities in the region, allow them to live independently, reduce their behavioral problems and help them gain the skills they require.
