Erenler Sofrası Set All Around Tanzania
As part of the Erenler Sofrası Ramadan Program, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed 1,000 packages of food and hygiene supplies in Tanzania.
TİKA Dar es Salaam Program Coordination Office distributed food packages and hygiene supplies to 1,000 families who live in the low-income villages of Tanga, Kivunge, Kilwa and Mafia as part of the Ramadan activities under the name “Erenler Sofrası”. The distribution ceremony, which was organized in Kilwa, was attended by Dr. Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Ambassador of Turkey in Dar es Salaam; Christopher Ngubiagai, Regional Governor of Kilwa; as well as representatives from TİKA’s Dar es Salaam Program Coordination Office and the local community.
Governor Christopher Ngubiagai expressed his gratitude towards TİKA and Turkey for reaching out a helping hand for the needy people in Tanzania. Having expressed that the village community has been living in adobe houses under difficult conditions and deprived of basic necessities such as water and electricity, Governor Ngubiagai said that basic needs of low-income families have been met for a month thanks to the food and hygiene packages distributed by TİKA, and expressed his wish to continue their cooperation with TİKA.
In his speech, Ambassador Güllüoğlu stated that as Turkey, they were happy to stand by Tanzania and the Tanzanians, that they saw this aid not as charity but as an obligation, and that they would be helping increase the welfare in Tanzania with sustainable development projects in addition to food aid.
Having attended the food distribution program in Tanga, Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Local Administrations, made a statement to the national TV and expressed his gratitude towards TİKA and Turkey for their support.
Khamis Chilo, a Member of Parliament in Kivunde and the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, thanked TİKA on behalf of the people of Mafia and Kivunde for the activities that they have carried out in Tanzania, especially in agricultural production, healthcare and education. Having expressed his satisfaction with the activities of TİKA and Turkey, Chilo wished that their relationship and the cooperation with TİKA would continue to get stronger.
