TİKA gave technical material to the Hydrometeorology Center, a Center that depends on the Council of Ministers of Uzbekistan in its fight against avalanches. The equipment included first-aid kits, digital snow thermometers, electronic receivers, snow clothes, boots, binoculars, snow shovels, backpacks, computers, snow goggles and transmitters and was delivered to the Vice President of Uzbekistan Hydrometeorology Center Gayret Umarov in a ceremony.
In his speech during the ceremony, TİKA Tashkent Program Co-ordinator Dr. Bekir Demir emphasized that this grant gave a new dimension to the facilities of TİKA in Uzbekistan. He stated that “our support will provide a greater contribution to preventing avalanches in the Kamçık region where avalanche disasters frequently happen. Our relationship with our Uzbek friends is very good. There are a multitude of requests for doing business with the institutions of the Republic of Turkey, in almost every field. We try to meet these requests as much as we can.”
The Vice President of Uzbekistan Hydrometeorology Center Umerov noted that less snow this year doesn’t mean that no avalanche disaster will occur. He stated that the equipment coming from Turkey would have a great significance for the teams serving in the Kamçık region and he expressed his thanks to the Turkish government and the Turkish people for their support.
