A photo exhibition entitled “Turkey’s comprehensive commitments to Afghanistan” on Turkey’s ongoing efforts in Afghanistan through TİKA was held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels from 10th to16th June. The purpose of the exhibit was to enhance the visibility of Turkey’s development assistance to Afghanistan. The exhibition was opened by Minister of Defense Vecdi Gonul and NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero. The Economic, Technical and Commercial Department Manager Selda Ozdenoglu was also present at the opening ceremony.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Minister of Defense Vecdi Gonul emphasized Turkey’s special relationship with Afghanistan and the Afghan people. Minister Gonul stated that Turkey will continue to support the Afghan government and to contribute to the civil- r military areas together with the Allies for the purpose of ensuring lasting peace and stability.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, and he expressed the importance of Turkey’s ties with Afghanistan and the Afghan people for the success of the Alliance. He continued by  saying “this exhibition is about Turkey showing us the challenges in Afghanistan, but also the successes of the people, both  civilian and military”.

The exhibition also instigated a meeting of NATO Defense Ministers held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The significance of Turkey’s contribution to Afghanistan was emphasized at the meeting by indicating that Turkey enjoys special historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan. Also emphasized was the importance of the projects executed by the Turkish private sector companies in Afghanistan.
