'Istanbul Call for Support to Gaza' Summit

'Istanbul Call for Support to Gaza' Summit, which came as part of an initiative developed by the Turkish Prime Minister's wife, Emine Erdoğan was held in Istanbul. The summit was attended by the First Ladies from the Middle Eastern countries and its purpose was to plead for peace in Gaza. Attending were the following: Aisha Muammar Gaddafi of Libya, Fauzia Gilani of Pakistan, Asma Assad of Syria, Sheika Mozah Bint Nasser al Missned of Qatar, Queen Rania of Jordan, Wafaa Suleyman of Lebanon and Bahar Muradova of Azerbaijan, as well as the Turkish Minister of State Nimet Çubukçu, TİKA President Musa Kulaklıkaya and President of the Turkish Red Crescent Society Tekin Küçükali.

Ambulances to the Hospitals in Palestine
Ambulances to the Hospitals in Palestine

Aid projects, carried out in Palestine by TİKA, included 15 ambulances which were delivered to the authorities from the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Ten of them were to be used for hospitals in the West Bank and the remaining 5 to be used for the hospitals in the Gazza Strip. The ceremony, held for the delivery of the ambulances, was attended by the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr. Fethi Ebu Muğli and the Consulate General Undersecretary of Turkey to Palestine, Ali Güney, TİKA Palestinian Programme Coordinator, Mustafa Çoşkun also attended, along with many guests.

Circumcision Feast in Afghanistan

TİKA continues its successful activities towards the health sector in Afghanistan, as is the case in other sectors. A collective circumcision for orphans and needy children was organized in two hospitals and two clinics managed by TİKA.

A New School for the New Year in Kosovo
A New School for the New Year in Kosovo

The projects carried out by TİKA for the development of the educational infrastructure, will continue in 2009. To this end, Anton Çetta Technical and Trade High School in İskenderay will be restored, in order to ensure that students will study in a healthier and more modern atmosphere. The rehabilitation and restoration of the high school is planned to be finished before the end of the educational year of 2009.

2008 Co-ordination Council Meeting was Held

The 2008 Coordination Council Meeting that assembles every year was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of State Prof. Dr. Mustafa Said Yazıcıoğlu. The meeting was attended by approximately 40 representatives on the level of under secretary and deputy under secretary from 28 institutions principally from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of National Education evaluated the facilities carried out by TİKA in 2008. They made decisions on future facilities planned for 2009.

Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development

A Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development was held in Doha, in order to review the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus. High level officials and heads of state or government, including Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki- Moon, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Georgia’s President Mihail Saakaşvili and TİKA President Musa Kulaklıkaya attended the four day conference.
